How did I miss that?
One thing I've learned, you can't edit your own writing! Why? You see what is supposed to be there, not what is actually there. It helps if you put the writing away for a few days and then return to it. Then there is AI. Personally, I use ProWritingAid for an independent observer. When I learned about this program, I immediately purchased a lifetime subscription. It isn't always right, but it catches many things that I miss - like where commas should and shouldn't go. Have I used the same words to start three sentences? Did I write a numeral instead of writing out the number? It knows many rules, and I can even tell it what style to use, like APA or Chicago Manual of Style. Boring? Even it misses things a trained editor knows, as I discovered after having a professional editor look at my new book.
WHAT???
This was a Content Edit as I wanted to make sure that the main book, Becoming Disciples of Jesus by Offering Space for God, matched with the accompanying Life Transformation Journal. Both books needed LOTS of work. Some corrections involve deleting extra lines (not an important correction as it next goes to someone to design the interior content). Other edits are more serious like rephrasing a paragraph so that it reads more smoothly. (Be happy, O future reader!) This important step in the writing process will significantly improve the final product. I work on.
