Prayer, What I Used to Think

Apr 04, 2021 by Leoma G Gilley, in INSIDE: Reflections

I used to think prayer was talking.
Now I know it is more listening.

I used to think prayer was asking;
Now I know it is more receiving.

I used to think prayer as words;
Now I know it is more silence.

I used to think I had to inform God;
Now I let Him tell me what’s on his heart.

I used to lack the right words to say;
Now I pray His words back to Him.

I used to think prayer was a duty;
Now I know it is more of a relationship.

I used to wonder if God heard my prayers;
Now I’ve learned to listen to His.

I used to think of prayer as a “time”;
Now our relationship is all the time.

I used to think of prayer as an action;
Now I know it is a time to be still.

I used to think prayer was work;
Now I know it is, especially making time for it.

I used to think prayer was hard;
Now I know it as rest, refreshment, renewal.

I used to think prayer was listing my problems;
Now I know it is more about honest sharing with a powerful Friend.

God doesn’t need my input,
But loves to share His heart for the world
With me.
